The Consequences by Manuel Munoz (short stories)

FREE – RSVP requested

Join us for our book club, Dust Jacket Journeys, where we invite you to explore perspectives around architecture, art, identity, and place. The selection of books this quarter will inspire thoughtful discussions and insights around the theme of labor. We look forward to a sharing a literary journey to new perspectives and new understandings one book at a time.

These exquisite stories are mostly set in the 1980s in the small towns that surround Fresno. With an unflinching hand, Muñoz depicts the Mexican and Mexican American farmworkers who put food on our tables but are regularly and ruthlessly rounded up by la migra (ICE; border patrol), as well as the everyday struggles and immense challenges faced by their families. With extreme care and empathy, Munoz allows readers a glimpse into the immigrant experience that goes beyond their labor and as lives deserving of consideration and grace, which is imperative in these increasingly tumultuous times.

This book is a Pride Pick: featuring an author and/or characters who are members of the LGBTQ+ community.
