Join us for a special members' movie night on Friday, October 17. The Gamble House and Pasadena Audubon Society are proud to present "The Birds" (1963), produced and directed by Alfred Hitchcock. This classic film stars Jessica Tandy, Rod Taylor, Suzanne Pleshette, and introduces Tippi Hedren in her film debut. It is loosely based on the 1952 short story of the same name by Daphne du Maurier.
Pasadena Audubon Society's Chris Spurgeon and Jared Nigro will chat about the explosive history behind this Hitchcock classic, including the revolutionary technological advances, the horrific filming experience for Tippi Hedren, and the internal battle Hitchcock endured during this production.
Blankets, low lawn chairs, and food and drinks are encouraged, and as always, we’ll provide the popcorn! This year the Gamble House Docent Council Hospitality Committee is taking orders for box dinners. Simply choose "Boxed Meal" or "Vegan Boxed Meal" at checkout.
Get a delicious prepared boxed meal for $30 each. "Bird Box Suppers" include your choice of entree: Wild rice chicken salad with cranberries OR vegetarian/vegan alternative wild rice chickpea and cashew salad with cranberries
Meals include:
• "Roosted" veggies
• “Tweet” potato vegetable chips
• “Camembird” and baguette or plant-based cheese and baguette for vegan meal
• Birdseed cookies — Delicious and vegan friendly
• Bottled water (single serving)
Boxes include napkins and utensils. Order deadline is October 10.
Before the movie begins, we will hold a raffle featuring movie-related prizes ($5 each or 5 for $20). Raffle tickets may be purchased in advance below or in-person the night of the event. All proceeds will benefit the Gamble House and Pasadena Audubon Society.

Note: While Alfred Hitchcock’s ‘The Birds’ is relatively tame compared to modern suspense/horror films, it does include adult themes, and scenes that young children may find upsetting. ‘The Birds’ was released before the modern MPAA rating system was created. If it was released today it would probably carry a PG-13 rating. Parental guidance advised.
