ONE-HOUR DOCENT-GUIDED TOUR OF THE INTERIOR OF THE GAMBLE HOUSE

ABOUT THE ONE-HOUR DOCENT-GUIDED TOUR

The Gamble House in Pasadena, California, is an internationally known masterwork of American Arts and Crafts architecture. The house and its furnishings were designed by architects Greene & Greene in 1908 for David and Mary Gamble of the Procter & Gamble Company of Cincinnati, Ohio. Realizing its artistic importance, the family deeded the house to the City of Pasadena in 1966. The house is stewarded and operated by the Gamble House Conservancy.

On this tour, your docent will lead an exploration of the house and its history through rooms lined with rare woods, featuring handcrafted details, fixtures, and furnishings designed by the architects and unique to the house. The Gamble House exemplifies the work of Greene & Greene, illuminating the themes in their work that contributed significantly to Southern California’s early 20th century artistic heritage and built environment.

For a more in-depth exploration of the house, pair the 12:00pm 1-Hour tour with the 10:45am Gardens & Gables: Exploring the Gamble House Outdoors tour on Saturdays and select Tuesdays. The Gardens tour will be suspended while our lawn is being reconditioned, from November 4 through December 6, 2024.

Friday, November 29, and Saturday, December 28, 2024, from 11am to 3pm, are Holiday Open House-style touring days where you can enjoy the house at your own pace with knowledgable docents stationed in each room.
